Dear Snuneymuxw Friends and Family:
I am very honoured to put my name forward to be elected as Snuneymuxw Chief. I’ve been working for First Nations around the province as a lawyer at the law firm of Mandell Pinder for the past two years – fighting government and industry to ensure First Nations Aboriginal Title and Rights and Treaty Rights are respected and protected, strengthening First Nations communities and governments, and helping individual Indigenous families and people with their legal problems. I want to bring those experiences home to benefit Snuneymuxw.
I dream of and envision a Snuneymuxw Nation made up of members that are healthy (from neo-natal to Elders), educated (in both Snuneymuxw teachings and Canadian education), have good housing and land to come home to, have economic opportunities, and who, together with Chief and Council and the SFN staff, form a strong system of governance where everyone’s voice and views are respected and considered – forming together a Snuneymuxw stance where we, and no one else, define our political future and protect and implement our laws and rights.
I want to build on our strengths and protect the good achievements and work of the Snuneymuxw government. We are a strong Nation with almost 1600 members – I want every member to have a meaningful voice in setting our Nation’s strategic priorities, and in the ongoing governance and affairs of our Nation. In my heart, I don’t believe that we can be the strongest possible Snuneymuxw Nation without every member being involved and engaged. We need the strength, heart and love of every Snuneymuxw member to ensure a beautiful future for our children, grandchildren and beyond. I promise to work as hard as I can to bring that vision into being.
Hychqa Siem!
Douglas White III, Kwulasultun
